Easiest Vegan Oreo Ice Cream

Easy vegan oreo ice-cream

For the condensed milk:

1 1/4 cup vegan cream (I use oat-based cream)
1/3 cup white sugar, packed

For the cream base:

2 cups vegan cream
1/4 cup agave
1/4cup melted vegan butter
1 tsp vanilla (optional, but tasty)
 Crushed Oreos

1 For the condensed milk, combine the cream and sugar in a pan on medium high heat, stirring continuously. When the sugar has fully dissolved and the mixture starts to boil lightly, bring down the heat to medium. Continue for another 6-8 minutes or until the consistency has thickened and darkerned slightly to an off-white/ cream colour. The condensed. milk should coat the back of a wooden spoon. Leave to cool.

2 For the base, simply whisk in a large bowl the 2 cups of cream and melted butter together, followed by the agave and vanilla.

3 When cooled, fold in the condensed mik. The ice-cream base is now ready chill in the fridge for a minimum of two hours.

4 Add the chilled mixture to your ice-cream machine, After about 7-10 minutes when the ice cream is starting to take form, this is when you can add the broken oreo pieces.

5 Continue until the consistency is soft-serve and then transfer into an ice-cream dish (or metal bread tin). Leave to fully freeze overnight.

Notes: I have only tried this with agave, so cannot guarantee the consistency with maple syrup. DO NOT use xylitol, it will not freeze!

Any vegan cream will do, but make sure it is cream and not milk. In Europe, the vegan cream is normally sold in 200ml cartons and described as vegan 'cooking cream' 'single cream' or 'double cream'.

"Do I really need an ice-cream machine?" This one is tricky. Having an ice-cream machine cuts down the work immensely, so you need not take the mixture out of the freezer every two hours to mix it and break down crystalization. It can be done without one, but be aware that you may be compromising the texture (I was never able to quite get the same texture without one). Don't bother with a ridiculously expensive $100 one either, I got mine under 40 euros here on Amazon (affiliate link).
